This is a U2 high altitude reconnaissance plane, a type of which the Defense Department announced today was missing on flight from US toward South America. Plane took off on routine mission from Barksdale Air Force Base near Shreveport La. The Pentagon announced it assumed the pilot lost consciousness in flight and the craft was under control of automatic pilot until its fuel supply was exhausted. Photo measures 11 x 8.25 inches.
