This commemorative paperweight is an antique from 1911 and is approximately 2.75" by almost .5" thick with celluloid on each side and an aluminum rim. Weighs less than 8oz. Maker Bastian Bros. is named on each side. This paperweight, dated "June 10th and 11th, 1911" on each side, pictures apparent head of the "Rochester Ad Club" on one side and the other pictures Elbert Hubbard, writer, publisher, artist and philosopher who was leading exponent of the Arts and Crafts Movement and founder of the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, NY. He and his wife died about two years later when a German submarine sank the Lusitania in 1915. Other than a book or photo, the only object we've ever seen to picture Elbert Hubbard.
