Weird Looking Beetle in Burmite Amber from Cretaceous Dinosaur Age New Species?:
Burmite (Burmese) amber is difficult to acquire and has been dated to be Cretaceous in age (around 100 million years old) and would have been sticky resin during the time of the dinosaursand is being mined in the Hukawng Valley in Myanmar (Burma).
InDecember of 2016,a portion of the tail of a small dinosaur wasreported in a piece of burmite amber and inJune 2017, a nearly complete, extinct bird was reported in a piece of burmite amber!
This is a fully polished piece of Cretaceous Period burmite (Burmese) amber that contains a strange looking beetle with a flat body. I have not seen one like it before in any amber fossil. It could possibly be a new genus or species!
It is fascinating to note that this insect would have been on the Earth at the time of the dinosaurs.
Please see my other resin fossils including Dominican amber with inclusions, large Colombian copal with inclusions, and very rare Indonesian ambers (some of lovely blue and green color).
The piece itself weighs 0.9 grams with dimensions of 1.6 cmlength by1.2 cm width and0.5 cm height.
