The \"Krak-A-Jap\" machine gun was one of the most popular war-time toy guns. It is entirely crafted from wood with the exception of the \"cooling sleeve\" which is made from cardboard. The gun has a ratchet mechanism that, when cranked, makes a loud clacking noise replicating a machine gun. The bipod legs can be removed and the pistol grip moved forward so the gun be carried as a \"tommy gun.\" The patent was applied for 28 September 1942 and granted 12 January 1943.
PLEASE READ: The pistol grip is affixed solidly in the rear position for the tripod gun configuration. I have not tried to remove it as there is a small crack in the wood (see photos #15 and #16). A woodworker could probably recommend ways to carefully remove the grip, but I did not want to risk any damage. Also, the tripod legs cannot be inserted all of the way into the gun. Careful sanding will do the trick.
