This is an original heavy splitting wedge, with the stamping: WPA.
It weighs about twelve pounds and measures 10 1/2\" X 3\".I am guessing that it is hand-forged, since it appears to have been formed by hammering.It was most likely used here in the Ozarks in a public works program of the New Deal in the 1930\'s.
I found it in Madison County, Arkansas, thirty-five years ago.
