I recently remodeled a 1920’sfarmhouse and we found this mounted under the house screwed onto one of thefloor joints. The cool old battery and fabric wrapped wiring were sitting onthe cast iron platform inside of the box. The wire ran through a hole drilledin the back of the box, through the floor at the edge of a wall. It was coiledup under some old carpeting and padding. I can only imagine why it was mountedthis way. This would be a really neat piece if someone had the original phonethat went with this box and battery. The box looks like walnut or some otherhardwood. It is stamped

It seems to be in goodcondition with exception of where holes were drilled in back where I imaginethe telephone was mounted. The battery is an old 3 Volt Dry Battery by BellSystem dated 1952. There are two brackets on the backboard, but there is only one of the metal hooks on the inside of the box (one is missing).It actually hangs off of the back wood flat panel by those 2 clips so it caneasily be removed to access and change the battery as needed. I don’t know muchat all about this stuff, but I think it’s pretty neat. The wood and finish isnice considering where it has been stored all of these years. The wiring seemsto also be in good shape.
