TheItem offered here is part of a very large collection of locks, keys, door knobs and restraints owned by my father \"Nicola\"Stone.

Nickbegan collecting locks and keys in the mid 1920\'s. As a child hisfascination began with the great Harry Houdini. Nick was bornNicholas Chernick in Russia in 1912 and came to the US in 1923. Atthe age of 11 he was multi lingual but did not speak any English. Hewas already preoccupied with Magic, locks and keys and the escapeartistry of Houdini. Nick studied not only English but every articleon Houdini he could find. By the age of 15 Nick was performing Magicshows in Akron Ohio where his family had settled.

Bythe age of 17 while Nick was in his senior year of High School he wasso heavily booked with shows that the school gave him an ultimatum.Either quite Magic or quite school. Nick\'s choice was to continue hisMagic career.

Inthe years that followed Nick educated himself on everything magic, escapology and everything Houdini. He studied every article, everynews reel and anything else available on the great escape master.Years after Harry\'s death in 1926 Nick communicated with Harry\'swindow Bess. Nick\'s collection included letters and a signed photofrom Bess.

Nickalso was a good friend and frequent contributor to Horace Marshall ofAkron Ohio. Marshall was the man of the legendary Marshall FlowersCreations and Magic Creations. Nick and Horace spent hours inMarshall\'s work shop into the early hours of the morning. Marieturned in and left the two to design, invent and discuss improvementsand changes to illusions. As a small child I saw my first coloredtelevision in the Marshall\'s home. Jack Parr was on the late nightshow and I often fell asleep on the floor in front of their TVwaiting on my father and Horace to get tired of creating.

Nick\'sson, my brother David as a toddler had the privilege (albeit he didnot realize it) of getting ?a horsey ride? from Harry BlackstoneSr when Harry and Nick were discussing Magic.

Nickcontinued preforming through out the Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana,Michigan New York, canda and surrounding areas while honing hisability to escape the most trying hand cuffs and chains. He preformedMagic shows for every major entity in the Akron area includingGoodyear, Goodrich, Firestone and American Hard Rubber company forannual employee\'s day and employee Christmas parties . He preformedfor every school in Akron and organizations such as AA, Edwin Shaw. The Society of the Blind, The diabetese Association of Akron, Manychildren\'s groups, Alpha Enterprises, Goodwill, many otherassociations including the department store Polsky\'s employee\'sparty. All with rave reviews and return invitations. He preformed infront of crowds of over 30,000 and did large school carnivals as themain act or opening act for well know celebrities.

Nickbecame a very well known part of Akron Ohio even writing a weeklycolumn for the Akron Beacon Journal for some time. The Beacon Journalwas where he met a beautiful young reporter Betty Irwin who becamehis wife, assistant, promoter and manger and my mother.

Tobe versatile Nick\'s act often included fire eating, slight of handand other unique skills in his shows but his true love was escapework. He preformed at local Amusement lake parks being bound andchained with hundreds of pounds of chains and locks and was droppedin the water from the parks high dive. His water escapes became avery important part of his skill as an escape artist. They were highin demand by the crowds who waited breathlessly until he appeared onthe waters surface holding his bindings. At times he would also belocked in a trunk after being tied and chained up. The the trunk wasalso bound with chains and locks before being tossed in the water.

Nickgot out of a straight jacket, beating Houdini\'s time while beingfilmed in front of a live audience. He was tired up, bound, and evenbagged by dozens of local law enforcement depts on dozens ofoccasions with reporters standing by. Photos show and articles tellof him escaping in less than 1 minute to the amazement of all whowitnessed his art.

Allthe while Nick continued collecting locks, keys, handcuffs and evendoor knobs including a nice collection of Russel and Erwin, MalloryWheeler, Corbin, Sargent and others as well as other unique relateditems. His collection became nationally known. He wrote a book on hiscollection and continued to do escape work and Magic well into hissenior years. At the time of his death Nick had accumulated over 4tons of locks, keys and locking devices, many which are extremelyrare. Shown here are photos, news paper articles and even thank youletters from my fathers many shows, performances and his last Magiccolumn for the Beacon Journal; The memorabilia, photos, letters, other amazing items including his collections are now owned by ourfamily. They have remained in storage since 1988 amd were completyuntouched since his death in 1990. We are just beginning to sortthrough this vast collection which includes 2000 locks 3000 keys andhundreds of door knobs and other hardware.

Hiscollection has been displayed in Libraries, Police Stations, townhalls, in schools and was even shown on television in severaldifferent States. He delighted in teaching adults and children thevalue of locks and keys in the World\'s history. We have dozens ofletters from school children who saw the collection on display. Thelast 30 years of his life was devoted to collecting, educating on,sharing and loving locks and keys.

Hisshows and accomplishments in the Field Of Magic and Escapologyas well as the book he wrote on vintage locks and keyswere enjoyed by thousands and many remember him still today. His wifeBetty was his life long partner and our mother. My brother and Iremember them both with many fond memories.

Thisitem listed is just one of his life\'s collected treasures. All of the items in this collection have been in heated storage untouched since 1988. All are part of a collection which includes 2000 locks, 4000 plus keys and over 400 pieces of hardware including beautiful and unique door knobs from the 1800\'s.
