Antique Handmade Cotton Quilt
Hand sewn date of Nov 1938.
Blue and white block pattern. Measures approximately 57\" x 82\" (twin size or nicely fits across the foot of a larger bed).The blue fabric has a super thin white stripe pattern - really only visible close up. The white fabric is solid and appears to be the same front and back.This blanket was made by a master quilter, it has extensive hand quilting with beautiful, intricate design work. The blue block section has a scalloped pattern - the white border is criss-crossed diamonds. The stitches are small and very close together. It is thin and lightweight (approximately 3 lbs) as was common for that time. The batting is smooth and evenly spread - no lumpy sections.The stitching is in excellent condition - I did not spot any loose or obvious missing sections. Of course I could have missed seeing something.
There is one small brownish stain near the middle - shown in last 3 photos (close up front and back with a wider view).The last 2 photos show some faint black marks in the white border. I have not tried removing any of the stains. I do not know enough about how to do that.
Quite a remarkable piece of art.
