This is a very nice, huge, old knife made by Dexter, in business in Massachusetts since 1818 as the Harrington Cutlery Company, introducing the Dexter name in 1884. It is the largest manufacturer of professional cutlery in the U.S., this knife was made for that trade many years ago. It is in the style and tradition of French Sabatier chef knives, fully forged carbon steel that tapers toward the tip and the butt, integral guard/bolster and full tang. At the tallest point, it is 2-5/8\" from spine to edge.The solid wood handles are attached to the tang with 3 large brass rivets. The knife has been used and sharpened, is sharp enough to use right now. There are dark spots on the blade from old rust and some light pitting, very tip of blade is slightly bent to left. Onehandle is stamped with \"48912HG DEXTER.\" Measures 17-1/4\" overall, 11-3/4\" from tip to front of guard/bolster. Contact me if you have any questions.
