Vintage Cast Metal Horse & “Cathedral of Learning” Souvenir Thermometer Statue:

This unmarked cast metal statuefeatures a miniature saddled horse mounted on a solid metal base situated nextto a cast replica of the Cathedral of Learning, a gothic revival structurelocated on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in westernPennsylvania. This miniature statuemeasures approximately 4 ½” in height by 5 ½” in width and although diminutivein size is substantial in weight. It features a working thermometer on the faceof the cathedral and a metal disc with the words, “Cathedral of Learning –Pittsburgh PA”. Thebase is covered with felt and embossed on the back of the building are thewords, “Pat Pend”. This statue is in good condition with the exception ofa thin crack in the metal under the horse, some discoloration and glue residuewhere the horse was mounted to the base.Despite these few flawsthis vintage souvenir statue is a handsome metal ware piece that has a verynice patina.

Note: The 42-storyCathedral of Learning is listed on the National Register of Historic Places andis the tallest educational building in the western hemisphere. It wascommissioned in 1921 with the first class being held in 1931.
