Significantly rarer than tintypes, these images were produced as negatives on glass in a similar manner. Magic lantern technology itself is near extinct, and images are uncommon.This glass image features a well dressed African American woman. Her period clothes are highly stylized and reminiscent of the 1820s-1830s. She may have been a princess visiting an area that had access to this technology.Any pre-1900 image of a African American is rare, but particularly women. They just simply did not have the same rights as men, on top of the racial issues of the time. You don't want to miss this one.
