Tijuana Bibles: Art and Wit in America's Forbidden Funnies 1930s-1950s HCDJ 1997:
$20
Hardcover in dust jacket in very good condition with minimal wear and pages are clean and unmarked. Two inch tear to dust jacket at right top at front flap. Book itself is like new. Measures 9" x 12", 160 pages. Various historical articles and overviews, and numerous dirty comics.I do not believe there is anything that reflects a society's
character than the porn it suppresses. The Tijuana Bibles of the 1920s and
1930s are a case in point. These funny little books that take on Hollywood
actors and actresses, cartoon and comic strip characters as well as prominent
women and men; are true Americana. As such, they were outlawed and anyone
selling or printing them faced jail time. This book, a collection of some of
the best of these little books, is a classic. I love this book and the complete
lack of political correctness presented in this review of the Tijuana Bibles
from the 20s/30s. It's naughty, but definitely nice! -Sam Oliverio Jr.
