Teacup Trio by Eschenbach of Germany Monbijou Dresden Flowers & Gold Roses c1950:
$32.00

Here is a gorgeous trio of porcelain teacup and saucer and luncheon plate, made by Eschenbach of Germany. I believe the pattern of the porcelain and style of cup and plates is the Monbijou that is on the backstamp. The porcelain color is an off white, maybe ivory or cream colored, with scattered flowers on the pieces, and in particular the flowers in the middle of the luncheon plate look like Dresden flowers. There is also a beautiful gold rose design, almost like lace, and a star like design surrounding the flowers inside the cup and on the plate. The cup is a wide mouth and footed cup. More than once, when I picked up the cup, I was surprised at how light it is and how fine and thin the porcelain is, the cup by itself only weighs 3 ounces!

I eventually found information on the backstamp on porcelainmarksandmore dot com. This backstamp was used around 1930 to 1950, and right after World War II, from about 1946 to 1949, the pieces would have been marked US zone, which this set is not marked that way.

This website gave more information on the porcelain manufacturer. Eduard Haberländer started the porcelain factory in Windischeschenbach in 1913. So the city, is where the brand name of Eschenbach comes from. It was taken over by Oscar Schiller in 1929, and then again by Winterling in 1950 because of hardships during the war. The information given said after the war, they started making fancier, more ornamental porcelain pieces, which this set certainly is, so this set was probably made right after the war before the company became part of Winterling, like 1949 or 1950.

The set is in excellent vintage condition, with no cracks or crazing. I was just getting ready to list this, and checking it over one last time with a super bright flashlight and found a small chip, under the glaze, on the edge of the bottom rim of the larger plate, where it rests when put down on a table. The glaze is on top of the chip, except for right at the rim, which is unglazed, so this happened during the manufacturing process. See picture #10 where a green arrow is pointing it out. There is minimal wear to the gold, and I see no marks on the glaze when held at an angle to the light.

The footed teacup holds 3/4 cup and stands 2 & 1/8 inches tall and is 4 & 1/2 inches in diameter. The saucer is 6 inches in diameter and the plate is about 8 inches a perfect size for a sandwich, salad or some other treat to go with your tea or coffee! The cup weighs only 3 ounces and the whole set weighs about 1 pound 2 ounces.

Please zoom in on the pictures for a closer look and see the 360 degree video.

I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, sometimes same day, always by next business day, and sometimes on Saturdays if I can get it packed and to the post office before they close at noon.

Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking!
