In April 1994, theUnited States Institute of Heraldry, also known as The Institute of Heraldry(TIOH) moved from Cameron Station to Fort Belvoir, Virginia and disposed oftheir samples.

The United States ArmyInstitute of Heraldry, also known as The Institute of Heraldry (TIOH), (from1918 to1960 as the Heraldic Program Office) is a Department of the Army thatfurnishes heraldic services to all the U. S. Armed Forces, U. S. governmentorganizations, NASA, including the Executive Office of the President, in thedevelopment, standardization, quality control, and approval of all symbolicitems, such as unit insignia, badges and awards. Samples are required for final approval, andare made by contract to various authorized manufacturers. In the case ofembroidered insignia, the standard machine run of 280 pieces, far exceeded theTIOH contract, and are produced at a loss by the contractor. Therefor mostauthorized manufacturers didn\'t offer on these contract, since the only advantagewas to have stock on hand if the item was approved. H.J. Saunders U. S.
