One of the most famous and coveted of the pre-code horror covers, this book from the illustrious L.B. Cole is made even more rare by the black logo variant. The border around the title was originally set in black before quickly being changed the publisher to a blue when they realized that it was difficult to read the “Tales” at the bottom. Both variants exist and are certainly grails for any collector, but the black logo variant remains exceedingly rare.

For those keeping score, that means that outside of this copy, sale sites have seen only TWO other copies since the year 2000. One of which was a Restored 1.0.

This comic has had its staples professionally cleaned to prevent rust migration and degradation of the paper along the spine, but the staples are original. CGC does not consider this restoration as it is not done to *improve* the comic, but merely to preserve its current status so can retain its integrity. This is reflected in the blue label with gray conserved note at the top. Note that all parts of this comic are original, nothing added- just (original) staples cleaned. Regardless, this is a beautifully presenting copy of a pre-code grail in an even more rare variant that does not come on the market in this (or any) condition often.

This comic is sealed and preserved in a CGC case and will be shipped in a secure bag and custom mailer. The case is in great condition and has been kept in a climate-controlled, LED-only enclosed room in a smoke-free home.
