RARE 19TH C BIXBY\'S \"THREE BEE\" SHOE BLACKING BLACK AMERICANA CLOCKWORK DISPLAY:
$399.99

This is a Victorian era store display and amusement dioramaof a street scene of both white and African Americanshoeshine boys watching an African American jointed dancer (not included). It is missing a cut out jointed figure with moving arms and legs that is attached to an internal device that makes him dance when wound. There is an example of this sign that is in the New York Historical Society (the last image in my photos) so one can see what the dancer was like.It was meant to catch the eye of customers coming into an old dry goods or hardware store so they would buy this shoe polish. This is about 20\" x 12\" and in as found condition. The spring and works are fine, and it seems to run forever when
wound. The lever moves up and down.It is about 3\" deep and made of dovetailed wood with some now tarnished metal around the front edges to frame and strengthen it. The back wood panel slides up to reveal the clockwork. The wear is exactly as seen in my photos.
