MOTORThis wonderful and exquisiteCrocker - Wheeler electricBi Polar motor is of an
extremely unusual formfrom what is foundin most or all advanced
collections that contain
examples of Crocker -
Wheeler motors.
Why?
Because this Crocker - Wheeleron offer DOES NOT have
a conventional CAST IRON
NAME PLATE with the 1891
PATENT DATE referenceimbedded into it. This Crocker -Wheeler BiPolar only has a
blank MAHOGANY WOOD
top-plate which conforms to
top shoulders of the two FIELDCORE uprights and is attached to
same. As well, each of the two
coils has curved brass barswith connection screws
attached to same - unlike
the more sophisticated
arrangements found in laterCrocker - Wheeler motors- that included molded
plastic-like twist knobs and
such - indicative of higherproduction runs. As well, the brass screw /
brass block assemblies
found on top of the coilsalso match the two straightbrass bars / blocks found
at the top of mahogany woodtop plate - and wires runup the side of the FIELD CORES
from the brass coil top bars/ screw assemblies to the
wood top plate.
No serial number is foundon this motor, although
two tiny hole remnants
on the top wood plateare present and may have
held a small plate with a
serial number. Coils are 2 1/2\" TALL x 3\"
DIAMETER.
\"C - W\" is found cast on thelower areas of the FIELDCORES and also \"C - W HP 1/6\"is found cast into the basearea under the armature brushassembly area. This is the
only ID found on the motor -
which we understand that thesecast marks are also found on
the later models made with thecast iron NAME PLATEwith PATENT reference. Has a WOOD brush adjustment
LEVER as part of the armaturebrush assembly - which we
have not found on other \"C - W\'s\"pictured on the Internet. x 10 1/2\" in size.In good over-allORIGINAL WOOD
