Photograph Notes: It\'s quite difficult to get a good view of the two waterfalls in Whitsundale Beck making it a rather sporting feature for those kayaking the beck (with a lot more water than this it has to be said). It\'s quite hard to see it coming from the approach too and in appropriate conditions one is going quite fast. Thus it is with some fondness that I found myself looking at the peaty pool here having rather urgently rolled back upright and turned round in time to make a more controlled descent of the second drop the first time I paddled the beck. Suitable conditions for the descent tend to involve a combination of sleet and snowmelt so it\'s not somewhere to be swimming - there was a gusty and biting wind (enough to snatch equipment from one\'s hands at the put-in) too so unlike today ! The beck continues in an interesting gorge for another kilometre but with nothing else quite as challenging as these drops before it flattens out somewhat to join the River Swale where things start to get more seriously sporting again.
