Up for sale is this Lot of 3 Native American Collectibles: 1) Plains “Indian” Chief Buckskin Doll, 2)Pima-Papago Handwoven Basket & 3) Hand-Knapped Jasper Arrowhead. 1) Buckskin Chief Doll (c.a. early to mid-20th century) is mainly composed of rawhide & cotton. It measures about 13"L x 5"W. The male chief figures is clothed in deerskin, which was associated with the Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains. Simple beading and a dried hide face, painted with eyes and mouth. The hair is made from cotton threads and tied back in braids. Provenance: ex- Artemis Gallery; ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, AZ & Allenspark, CO.2) Pima-Papago Geometric Woven Basket (ca. 1930s-1950s) is about a 9” in diameter & 2.75” high. The Pima (Akimel O'Dham) and Papago (Tohono O'Odham) were native to the Sonoran Desert of the present states of southern AZ & northern Sonora, Mexico. The Pima & Papago were known for fighting against Apaches and Yavapais on behalf of Spain, Mexico, and the U.S. Even though they were fierce warriors, they produced magnificent baskets. This coiled cylindrical basket was hand twined with natural plant fibers such as a willow, sumac, and/or devil's claw. Their narrowly-coiled baskets were made of cattail or bear grass and were closely stitched with willow splints. Provenance: ex-collection of Mary K. F. Leong (of NJ and WA), acquired in Arizona in the late 1960s. 3) Jasper Arrow Tip Artifact is about 1” long & was dug up in Tuscon, AZ.
