Masterpiece Zuni Carved Cloud Mountain Turquoise Beavers Fetish By Wilfred Cheama

This fetish is one of a few true masterpieces by master carver Wilfred Cheama. It depicts a beautiful mother beaver with her kit.

It is carved from a 3470 Carat perfectly chosen and exquisite piece of gem grade Cloud Mountain Turquoise as identified by The Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque. Gem grade Cloud Mountain turquoise of this quality is valued at $20 per carat giving a retail value of the stone alone of $69,400.

This masterpiece is a large realistically detailed fetish carving of two plump beavers on the dam they are building. This carving is made from a beautiful piece of extremely high quality turquoise with a lovely dark red-brown matrix. The beavers have coral eyes. This is one of the largest carvings I have seen Wilfred carve.

The detail on this carving is excellent, with the beavers having incised fur, and very realistic, lifelike tails, faces, and bodies. Photos just do not even begin to do justice to this carving. It is in mint condition. The turquoise is striking with the lovely blues complemented by the darker matrix. Wilfred Cheama has signed the bottom of the carving, as seen in the photographs.

Please note that the actual colors of the fetish may vary from that on your computer screen. Also please note that the turquoise has seams of darker and lighter matrix material. This is part of the carved stone. Shiny spots are reflections of light on the polished surface. Please view my photos.

Like his siblings, he was taught by his half-brother, Dan Quam and has also won numerous awards. He carves Zuni Fetish eagles, mountain lions and directional sets in a detailed and strong manner. Wilford and his siblings have taken Zuni fetish carving to the realm of realistic, detailed and naturalistic fetish creations.
