Private Ambrose Ingerson served in A Company, 123rd Ohio Infantry- captured at the Battle of Winchester, 1863, paroled, and a year later wounded again at Winchester and died after his leg was amputated. An original letter from Ingerson, at Martinsburg, Va, undated, to "Dear Mother' he writes that he has written her 5 letters with no reply. He has been arrested as a deserter from Parole Camp and the paymaster took it out of our pay. He has received his boots today. Comrade John Emerson has returned to the regiment and he feels good since he got back. Private Ingerson asks her to write with news of home, he wont write until I hear form you. Direct letters to Co A, 123 Regt OVI and write soon.2pp ink, 8 x 5". Minor age stains, edge wear, Overall VG. Ingerson was from Wyandotte, Ohio, was wounded during the Retreat from New Market, and his Wyandotte, OH tombstone lists him as born in 1847, making him only 18 at time of death (suggesting he enlisted at age 15- 16).
