The National Road was the first highway built by the federal government, starting in 1811 from Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois. The routing is approximately followed by US highway 40 and interstate highway 70 today. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. It weighs about 2 pounds, 15 ounces.
