From an old collection, here is a rare opportunity to purchase a vertebra bone from this very uncommon dinosaur, from an uncommon location for this species. From the Jurassic, about 170 million years ago. Found inGreat Houghton, Northampton, England.
Cetiosaurus was a sauropod that lived in what is now Europe. It reached over 50 feet in length, and was sometines known in England as the \"Oxford Brontosaur\".
This is a vertebra from a Cetiosaurus that measures about 3.9 inches at its longest measurement (93 mm by 82 mm), and weighs 1 lb. 3.05 oz. It is very sturdy, with great appearance and curvature.
The name means \"Whale Lizard\" or Sea Monster Lizard. It was originally (1841) lumped in with giant crocodiles, because of the scarcity of bones, and was not changed to being called a dinosaur until 1869. Even today, there are not a lot of Cetiosaurus bones that have been found.
There are a number of Sauropods closely related to Cetiosaurus, and there is also the possibility that a different paleontologist might label this vertebra instead as a related genus. For example the name for the genus Duriatitan did not exist until 2010, and then it was based on a single humerus bone (specimen BMNH 44635).
This vertebra was collected and identified long before 2010, and anyway, without the humerus to go with it, who can be certain it is not a Duriatitan?

Even Richard Owen in 1842 incorrectly described Cetiosaurus as a large marine reptile (crocodile). It was not until 1869 that Cetiosaurus was officially recognized as a dinosaur.
