This is one of the best Japanese Covered turned wooden Apple box. Designed as a toy, this one likely held a roulette wheel, long gone. The size is exceptional as is the rich old patina. This box is one of the only examples with a patent number “ 36406” on the inside of the cover. It also has a stamped “Japan” on the bottom. I don’t know what the symbol represents that is carefully placed in the middle of the typical yellow patch on the exterior side of the box.
