You are offerding an extremely fine condition autograph of jazz legend Fats Waller, signed on Oct 9, 1942 at the RCAF Depot 1 M in Toronto. The autograph was obtained by a veteran stationed at the Depot from mid 1942 to late 1943 who kept an extensive scrapbook of the entertainers that performed for trainees. Some events featured Walter Pidgeon, Ben Bernie ("The old maestro") , Richard Crook, and renowned violinist Carroll Glenn. Some events were attended by over 10,000 servicemen and their guests.

The large autograph was written on the stationary provided to personnel at all the training depots across the country with the distinctive YMCA logo and "On Active Service" letterhead. The veteran added a Toronto newspaper article to the autographed letterhead noting Fat's passing at only 39 years in Kansas City on Dec 15, 1943. Of note is another musical program attached to the back of the scrapbook page.

Although the autographed sheet and newspaper clipping were glued in the scrapbook, the sheet was folded and the autograph with letterhead and date could be safely detached with no damage if desired however the piece as it stands with the clipping would present extremely well framed.

The autograph comes with a COA and Seal from AutographCOA of Middletown CT.

This is an incredible piece of not only jazz history but one with an extremely rare Canadian war-time connection.
