BARONET OF LONDON GILT-BRASS BEVELED GLASS CARRIAGE CLOCK
PREMIER LEVER MOVEMENT WITH SILVERED PLATES & MODULAR CONSTRUCTION
This handsome clock is from my personal collection of vintage and antique timepieces curated since the early 1970s. Yes; that's Doug half a century ago gracing the cover of our local newspaper. Just prior to the "quartz revolution" of battery powered clocks, Baronet of London merchandised a limited range of costly Swiss made desk and small shelf clocks with high grade mechanical movements. These timepieces were marketed exclusively in the UK through prestigious jewelers (e.g., Harrods, Asprey). The beautifully finished 15-jewel movement with silvered plates, gilded brass barrel & wheels, polished steel pinions & arbors, and blued screws is visible through beveled glass side panels and a Perspex housing. The silvered dial is satin brushed and screened with Roman numeral hours and Arabic five minute numbers. Delicate hands are pierced and black enameled. Somewhat misleadingly, the dial is marked "Made in England." Methinks only the dial was produced in the UK.
The satin brushed and mirror polished solid gilded brass case incorporates a swing handle and reeded pillars. Screws securing lower case components are recessed in cylindrical feet. NOTE: I completely disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed the movement in waterless solutions, checked for wear, polished the scored first wheel pinion side pivot, installed a Swiss bronze bushing, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil. Mainspring was removed from the barrel, cleaned and lubricated with grease. Hands, dial, crystal and the case were cleaned. Meticulous restoration should provide reliable operation for years. Labor cost for overhaul of comparable clocks averages $375.
Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details. I'm available to answer any and all questions / concerns.
Thanks!
