Early c1900-1940 Inuit Eskimo Soapstone Hammer Head Ice Chipping Axe Primitive Tool. The front of the hammer is flat and the back of the hammer is carved to a point. This hammer was likely attached to a skin and bone/wood handle. Most likely used as an ice chipping hammer. The sides of the hammer head appear to have a fish hook carved into them. The underside of the hammer appears to have a measuring or centering mark etched into it. This hammer head appears to have been used extensively and is showing some signs of wear. Very rare.
Condition is vintage pre-owned. Please see photos for condition.
