This vintage belt buckle is in good condition with some scratches and some tarnished areas. Please refer to the listing photos and note that the buckle has a wide tab on the back instead of a prong, which would make it difficult to wear on a modern belt. Selling as a collectible only.
Measures: 3.8” by 2.8”Fits a belt width up to: 2.4”
This buckle was made in London, England the early 1970s but has the appearance of an antique from the late 1890s or early 1900s. They were part of an intricate scheme concocted to trick American antique collectors into buying them at ridiculous high prices. The buckles often have fictional historical markings on the reverse, with manufacturer names including Tiffany Co, Montauk Silver Co. or Gaylord Express Co. Today, they are jokingly referred to as "Fairchild Originals" named after their creator, John Fairchild. The fraudster was ultimately discovered and barred by US Customs from entering the country.
