Up for sale is a 7" x 9" 1-page personal letter from Charles W. Sawyer - on The Secretary of Commerce letterhead - to Mr. Ned Brooks, May 23, 1949. In Full: "I was a little late arriving at the Gridiron Dinner Saturday night and, therefore, did not have a chance to see you. I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated the invitation to attend, and how much I enjoyed myself. With sincerest good wishes, I remain Yours,."
Ned Brooks (August 13, 1901 - April 1969) was an American television and radio journalist who was moderator of NBC's "Meet the Press" on television from 1953 until 1965, and earlier on radio. Brooks is the second-longest tenured moderator of the program after Tim Russert. He began his career in newspaper reporting in Ohio at the "Ohio State Journal" and for "Scripps-Howard" newspapers. For five years he was managing editor of the "Youngstown (Ohio) Telegram". He was later broadcaster for NBC's "Three Star Extra".
Charles W. Sawyer (February 10, 1887 - April 7, 1979) was United States Secretary of Commerce from May 6, 1948 to January 20, 1953 in the administration of Harry S. Truman.
