This is a rare l st cIass relic of Saint Charles Borromeo, the Patron Saint of Dieting and Obesity, accompanied by it’s authenticate document dated 1829, and issued by Cardinal Zurla, Vicar General of the Vatican and powerful member of the Roman Curea under both Pope Leo XII and Pope Pius VIII.

Saint Charles Borromeo was the Archbishop of Milan from 1564 to 1584 and a cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was a leading figure of the Counter-Reformation, combating against the Protestant Reformation, together with St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Philip Neri.

St. Charles Borromeo is known as the "Father of the Clergy" and the patron saint of seminarians.

He is also the patron of stomach ailments which include dieting and obesity. This is due to his connection to people who suffered starvation. During his life as a cardinal, many people were starving, especially because of the plague that struck the city. The government leaders of the city left. He stayed and he used his family's wealth to purchase food which he distributed to the starving citizens.

This reliquary comes complete with a bl as close velvet stand pictured.

Prayer to Saint Charles Borromeo, Saint of Dieting

Saint Charles Borromeo, You are honored as the patron of Stomach Ailments including Obesity and Dieting. You have an ardent love for God, chosen by God and put on this earth to better mankind. You lived your life as an example, to shine and guide. I ask for your help and your strength in helping me deal with my weight. I ask you in the name of the most Holy Blessed Sacrament to hear my prayers, and to cure my problem. Amen

The time has come for me to find new custodians for my treasures.

I’m starting with this relic of St Patrick & St Brigid considering it’s the appropriate the time of year.

I obtained this reliquary in 1979 while in Canada on a pilgrimage. Obtaining it had nothing to do with the pilgrimage itself, but more to do with my love of estate and tag sales. I stumbled upon an sale at a convent while on the way from Montreal to Quebec City. It was literally in the middle of no where. The convent’s mother house was closing locations by combining two small convents and building the elderly sisters a modern and warm state of the art convent/retirement home.

I was surprised to find quite a collection of authentic holy relics, all in one lot. (The good sisters were no longer in residence, having already moved to their new convent. If they were there, I could not imagine them allowing the sale of relics to take place.

The sale was being run by an sale house company. They were saleing everything…marble statues, pews, paintings, dishes, candle sticks, furniture, fixtures even door knobs.

There was a big cigar box filled old rosaries, scapulars and medals, along with 28 holy relics!!

It turns out I was the only buyer, and suddenly became obsessed with relics!

I learned everything I could about relics and reliquaries. Over the years, I have added to my collection.

Sadly, most relics on line today are deeply suspect. There are too many fakes…I can spot a fake 123.
