French Ormolu Empire Clock, Circa 1800
A very fine example of a French Empire fire gilded ormolu / mercury clock depicting two young lovers portraying the allegory of music. The pair of figures are draped in smart clothes featuring fine detail. The figural group surmount the clock drum; the gentleman hold a lute in his hand whilst the lady holds a tambourine. The figures display the finest chasing throughout, pay particular attention to the hair and eyes.
To the front elevation, the clock features a white enamel dial with Roman numerals surrounded by an ormolu rim. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular detachable wooden base.
The original mechanism is present without modification featuring a suspension silk thread.The clock features a twin train mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell.
The bell, pendulum and winding key are present.
