6 Nations Canada Talking Earth Studio Pottery Vase by Leigh Smith. Wife of co-founder Steve Smith. This is an exquisite piece made by Leigh Smith of the Turtle Clan of the Mohawk Nation, Haudenosaunee and the Six Nation Reserve, Canada (Lower Toronto) . Dated 1977 and is very reflective of a traditional form of the pottery designs of the Haudenosaunee. It is wheel thrown and skillfully carved and finished with an iron oxide wash that gives it a rich, slightly metallic brown finish unlike a glossy glazed or painted finish. Museum quality vase and an extremely rare early vase that can not be found anywhere except in Museums.
In fine condition, solid . No hidden cracks, ting sound when tapped . There are some small tiny exposed white spots (iron oxide) from the under glaze in some areas. Measures 4 1/8 inches in height and 3 1/2 inches at widest diameter.
