1897 MEMORIAL DAY Program/PEABODY MA/UNION POST No. 50--Civil War VETERANS: $16.99
Program (just over 4” by 5 ¾” closed, just over 5 ¾” by 8” fully open) for a Memorial Day celebration in South Peabody, Massachusetts, by Peabody Union Print, dated 1897. The front of the program has an illustration of a Grand Army of the Republic ribbon and medal with text that reads G.A.R. Memorial Sunday, Union Post No. 50, G.A.R., Sons of Veterans, Woman’s Relief Corps, South Church Peabody, May 30, 1897, followed by lines of a poem by John Greenleaf Whittier. The interior pages give the Order of Services with performances by a choir and an organist, prayers, scripture readings, sermons, hymns, and a benediction. The back cover has some more lines of poetry. The program is in only fair to good condition with light wear and soiling. The fold is nearly separated, and there’s water damage to the card along that edge with some discoloration or staining. Nice Peabody MA Civil War veterans related item!
