This whimsical beer tray, featuring artwork by the famous Dr. Seuss, is getting increasingly harder to find since his death in 1991 ~ especially one in as good condition as this tray is. The paint on the face and inside of the tray is in very good condition. The colors are brilliant and really POP off the tray. Whitish markings on the face of the tray are reflective glare/shine off the surface. There is a scratch with some missing paint at Chief Gansett\'s neck near his necklace and various areas of missing paint on the rim. The back has marks and a few very minor scratches, which is typical of vintage trays. All in all it\'s in VERY good condition ~ approaching excellent ~ for a 70+ year old tray.As always, please refer to the photos to draw your own conclusions regarding condition.
The wonderful graphics feature \"Chief Gansett\" in full headdress with a tomahawk in his waistband, balancing a goblet of Narragansett Ale or Lager while flying along on a wheeled cart bearing his name. A brown cat, perhaps a relative of the famous \"Cat in the Hat,\" runs along at Chief Gansett\'s side, declaring, \"Too Good to Miss!\" \"Gangway For Gansett\" is printed to the left of the Chief and \"Famous Narragansett Lager and Ale\" is printed in a red field to his right. The inner sides of the tray feature beautiful, stylized heads of grain and hop berries and leaves in yellow, red and green, set against a black background. Of all my husband\'s many beer trays, this one is my favorite! NOTE THAT COLORS DISPLAYED ON YOUR MONITOR MAY VARY SLIGHTLY FROM THE ACTUAL TRAY. The blue background on the face of the tray is more of a TEAL shade than a true blue.
The tray is unmarked as to where, and by what company, it was made, but according to my research, it most likely was manufactured by American Art Works, Inc. of Coshocton, Ohio.
\"One of the most popular trays around. Collected by Breweriana Collectors and Dr. Seuss Collectors. Seems Dr. Seuss was college buddies with Mr. Haffenreffer at Dartmouth College. Mr. Haffenreffer later became a man of influence at Narragansett and asked his friend to design a tray.\"
This tray is on display in one of the galleries at The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Size is approximately 12\" in diameter by 1-3/8\" deep. This tray has straight, slightly slanting sides.
