This is a numbered (No.6839) Philippine Insurrection/numbered (No.4955) Cuban Pacification/WW`1 Victory/VFW group to a retired 7th Cavalry Sergeant. The Philippine Campaign medal has the original full wrapped, open C catch brooch and original ribbon. The ribbon does show some light wear at the folds. The planchet has a pleasing chocolate brown patina, and is in very good condition. The letters and numbers are well struck, very clear and easy to read. Includes the Cuban Pacification Service medal has the original full wrapped, open C catch brooch and original ribbon. The ribbon shows wear on the front and reverse, but this was caused by defective ribbon dye, and almost every Cuban Pacification ribbon show this kind of wear. The planchet is in very good condition and the letters and numbers are well struck, very clear and easy to read. Includes the WW1 Victory medal that has the original full wrapped flat swivel locking clasp brooch and original ribbon. The ribbon does show some light wear at the top near the brooch. The planchet is in very good condition, but does show a small dark spot on the reverse. Includes a older style VFW membership medal, but it is missing both the brooch pin and ribbon. The planchet is in very good condition.
All of these medals were awarded and issued to SergeantEphraim Meredith. Mr. Meredith was born on January 12, 1879 at Clearfield, Pennsylvania. He first enlisted with Troop F, of the 6th Cav. on August 15,1900, at Detroit, MI. After service in the Philippines, he was honorably discharged at Angel Island, CA. He reenlisted in 1904 and again in 1907, that placed him in Cuba during the Pacification. He reenlisted in 1910, and again in 1913, when he was stationed stateside during WW1. He again reenlisted in 1920, 1923, and eventually retired at the rank of Sgt. with the 7th Cav. in April of 1927. He died on August 30, 1960, at Platea, Pennsylvania, and is buried at the Platea Cemetery, in Platea, PA.
I will include a 6 page copy of his Army records as provided by the archives, which confirms his issuance of a WW1 Victory medal, a 2 page copy of his issue records for both Campaign-Service medals, a copy of his Pennsylvania Veteran's Compensation Application, and a copy of a picture of his headstone.
