In order to further muddy the waters about this, the spelling of 'gibber' is the one most usually used, but I have seen 'gibba' and 'gibbar'. It is an aboriginal word and as they had no written language we shall just have to muddle along with the English version, and I suppose 'gibber' is the spelling we are most used to as English speakers. Maybe, who knows, certainly not me, there may be a French or German language variation, or American (with a retroflex 'R'). Or Finnish with 2 ' i's and 3 'b's. Who knows? But there are plenty of words in English that have the same spelling/pronunciation, but different meaning, 'but' is one of them!
I thought 'jibber' as in 'jibber jabber' was spelled with a 'j' not a 'g' as suggested in the pronunciation guide. After all we none of us would know what a Gabbawock was would we!
I was right about the Gibber-ish though!
