I live on a boat
I am dependant on a generator
phone chargers etc seem to go fairly often
HE tube lights also

I need to cover up to 1kw

any advice or even simple cicuit diagrams would be welcome!!

You can get a battery backup for that amount of power protection that will work not only to protect you from surges, but power drops that also affect sensitive power supplies and components.
