This is a beautiful vintage brass Arabic calligraphy wall hanging purchased in Saudi Arabia between 1980 and 1987. The elegant calligraphy spells Al-Madinah which translates to “the city“. In Islamic tradition, this refers to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah (Medina)- one of the holiest cities in Islam.

Expertly crafted, the brass has subtle etching details and a warm patina that enhances it’s vintage charm. The calligraphy style is Freeform and artistic, possibly influenced by traditional. Diwani script, known for its flowing ornamental design.

We purchased this in Saudi Arabia between 1980 and 1987 when we were teaching elementary school for American students. It has been in our smoke free home since then.

Excellent vintage condition with natural patina, minor signs of age and where add to its authenticity and appeal. It is about 10 inches wide times 3.5 inches tall.
