This is a Stunning MINT Refurbished Stanwell Bark Carved Slightly Bent Freehand Sitter 47 by Anne Julie, made in Denmark. Poul Nielsen set up Stanwell in 1942, carving pipes from Beechwood until Briar became available to him after the war, the name designed to compete with the Classic English Brands. He moved the factory to Borup to be near chief designer Sixten Ivarssen, and over the next decades as Danish Pipe Design swept the world, the carvers who started with, or designed/carved for Stanwell reads like a who\'s who of Danish Pipe-making. It was a major shock when Borup closed in 2009, Stanwell Range Pipes now made by Barontini in Italy. The briar of this MINT Anne Julie designed Freehand Sitter is deep red/tan stained, beautifully carved and sandblasted to a Rustic Finish, the bowl rim still crisp and un-marked. Shank and stem are flattened ovals, the stem a non-filter slight Fishtail, with Stanwell Crown over S Logo, in MINT condition like the rest of the pipe. The bowl needed the lightest of reaming and was cleansed, the stem was fully sanitised to make the pipe ready to smoke as soon as you receive it, before the whole pipe was lightly polished and canauba waxed to give the Wonderful finish you can see in the photos. The pipe draws and will smoke perfectly, it sits so snugly in the hand, well balanced and so very tactile!!
