Benedict Joseph Labre was born in 1748 to a well-to-do family in France, the eldest of 15 children. He received early education for the priesthood by his uncle who was a parish priest. When he was eighteen an epidemic struck the city and while his uncle cared for the victims, Benedict cared for their cattle. His uncle was one of the last victims of the plague. Benedict wanted to become a monk and tried to join several orders, but his health was too delicate. He became a third order Franciscan and embrace the life of poverty as he visited shrines all over Europe. He travelled on foot, slept in the open or a corner of a room, and lived on what little he was given. Benedict spent many hours in Eucharistic adoration and would often swoon when contemplating the Crown of Thorns. He could levitate and bilocate, cured some of the homeless people he met and multiplied bread for them. In his last years he lived in Rome, sometimes in the ruins of the colosseum, and became known as the "Saint of the Forty Hours" for his devotion to the Eucharist. He died at age 35, worn out by malnutrition and exhaustion and was buried in the Church of Santa Maria ai Monti. He was canonized in 1881 and is the patron saint of the homeless, beggars, rejects, unmarried men and those suffering from mental illness.
The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medalsand pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" programon a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although theyare not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of ourcustomers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages"and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about thesaint or Catholic devotion.
Please pray the Rosary for world peace!!;
