This is for a pair (2 scales) of very well made Ghost River STABILIZED (impregnated) WOOD knife handles (Scales). They glow after exposure to light. The brighter the light, the longer and brighter they glow. They roughly measure 5-1/8th inches long by 2 inches wide and are usually at least 3/8th inch thick (message me if different or exact size is needed, possible 1/8” variable in any direction due to sanding and shaping). I try to provide you with the most material possible to allow for mistakes, as well as allowing for those with big paws.

These scales are made from beautiful hand-selected Cedar grown, milled and cut in western Kentucky. I use glowing dyed Resin (epoxy) for the Ghost River design and also heat activated Stabilizing Resin (the very popular and we’ll preforming Cactus Juice Stabilizer Resin) in making these scales. These are gorgeous Knife handles and will set your knifes apart from the rest!

ALL OF THE THESE SCALES HAVE BEEN STABILIZED. If you are unfamiliar with wood stabilization; Stabilizing wood is very very important, especially for wood that is being used on a knife. Stabilizing helps prevent the wood from expanding and contracting in various temperatures and humid environments. Non-Stabilized knife handles will move and crack over time during changing Atmospheric conditions.

These scales have been submersed in a special type of resin, then placed in a vacuum chamber. The vacuum then pulls the air out of the wood over time. Since they are submerged in resin, the resin gets pulled into and fills the small pores and gaps inside of the wood. When the vacuum process is completed, the scales are left to soak for several hours. Then they are placed in a oven and heated to at least 220°F for a few hours or however long is needed, contingent of thickness. This causes the resin inside of the wood to harden, thus solidifying the once porous wood into a fixed hardened knife handle that’s extremely durable and will last for generations to come.

The photos in this sale may not be the exact blanks that you received but will be very similar as I have made several pairs and have not photographed them all. The listed photos are the scales having been shown to be already sanded and cleaned up. I do this to show more closely of how they will appear once on your knife. These scales often ship with the stabilization crust still on the scales as proof that they have been stabilized. Unfortunately many sellers claim their scales have been stabilized when they have in fact, they have not been. Stabilizing resin is expensive and cost around $110 per gallon for the good stuff like I use (Cactus Juice brand). I feel it’s important to show new customers that you actually do stabilized because many claim to, but don’t because of the cost of equipment and chemicals needed. Leaving the crust on helps show that mine are made correctly. The crust is easily removed with your belt sander or sandpaper.
