Peter Stackpole(June 15, 1913 – May 11, 1997) was an Americanphotojournalist. He was one ofLifemagazine's first staff photographers and remained with the publication until 1961.Stackpole shot 26 cover portraits for the magazine.This is a rare collection of Stackpole photographs, most that were included in the book, "Peter Stackpole: Life in Hollywood 1936-1952". (The book is included in this collection.)
Stackpole photographed Shirley Temple had various points in her career; the photo of Temple included was taken with her bodyguard/ chauffeur reflected in the car window. This photograph is signed and dated by Stackpole.
Three of the photographs are stamped on the reverse with direct credit to Stackpole and copyright to Life Magazine 1942 and Time Warner 1970. One is of Gary Cooper as "The Westerner" in 1940.There are various other photos included as well as an invitation postcard to a lecture by Stackpole at the Ansel Adams Center in San Francisco in November of 1992.
