Very rare, museum quality 1890s tintype of two African American baseballplayers!These men were teammates on the Rattlers, an all-black baseball team out ofWichita, Kansas,that operated around 1890-1900, right in the middle time frame
of this c.1895 image.The players are in full uniform with the seated one holding a bat. They arenotidentified, but another member gave me a fewnames of Rattlers who could
be possibilities: Charley Strawn (Pitcher - 1896 to 1897)
Sam Collins (Shortstop & Catcher - 1900)
Fred Holton Left Fielder, Pitcher, First Base & Catcher - 1896)
Frank Kennedy (Center Field - 1900)
? Bufford (Pitcher 1900)
? Kendall (Pitcher - 1900 - He had one arm.)Tintypeis about 3.25" x 2.5" with light bends and light surfacewear.My scans of tintypes always seems to come out darker than how the originalimages appear in bright lighting or daylight.
