Cass Scenic Railroad Forest Festival Special – October 1974

In this three-part film, we get a rare glimpse at one of Cass Scenic Railroad's Forest Festival Specials. Filmmaker John P. Killoran, a familiar name in Cass history, recorded this film in the style of a travelogue, showing the people and places that were part of this unique railroading experience from a bygone era. This film includes footage of the run from Durbin to Elkins on the now abandoned Western Maryland Railway Durbin Branch, a look at the Elkins boarding area and a festival shuttle run to Kelley Mountain Tunnel, as well as the all-day Western Maryland Spruce Scenic Tour on the GC&E line to Spruce and Big Cut featuring Western Maryland diesels.

Twilight on the Greenbrier Scenic Railroad – October 1974

The weekend after Heisler No. 6 returned from the Forest Festival in the previous film, we have the rare opportunity to ride on one of the very last Greenbrier Scenic Railroad excursions that operated on the former Greenbrier Subdivision of the C&O Railway. In the present day, this railroad is abandoned and most familiar to the bikers and hikers of the Greenbrier River Rail-Trail. Also included is a glimpse of Cass Scenic Railroad operations on a very busy autumn day, including a tour of the town as it appeared prior to preservation, and a double-headed Whittaker train with added first generation tourist equipment that would soon be retired. (Total run time: approx. 26 min.)

The films do contain a small watermark in the lower right hand corner of each film to help preserve the copyright. The logo is small and not noticeable. If you see the logo in the sample pictures, the logo on the actual film is only the "locomotive" symbol as seen in the samples...not the full "Casshews" logo.
