Circa 1900 African Antique Carved Lwena Luvale Prestige Spear Angola ZambiaCirca 1900 African Antique Carved Lwena / Luvale Prestige Spear most likely Angola, possibly ZambiaThis is a beautifully carved vintageLwena / Luvale Prestige Spear most likely Angola, possibly Zambia. Made by the Lwena /Luvale tribe for tribal use. The female figure is made from a single long piece of wood, with a beautifully aged patina, that is then attached and fitted to the metal spear head with wire.
The chiefs of the Lwena /Luvale people were inherited through a matrilineal (maternal) line, this is most likely and image of the one of the preceding ancestors, and this spear was likely used for ceremonial purposes.
