50s USMC Marine Corps " Herringbones " Complete : Col. Wm. T. Hewes 1953-82 'Nam:

Wm. T. Hewes, descendant of Founding Father Joseph Hewes (signer of Declaration of Independence) graduated from the Naval Academy and served in the USMC from 1953-1981, 28 years, obtaining the rank of Colonel. Hewes was an EO for HMM 362 "The Ugly Angels" in Vietnam 1965-68.
1950s "HERRINGBONES" include:

Cover HEWES stamped with Gold Oak Leaves insignia
Blouse HEWES stamped w/ pits 22" & shoulders 20"
Pants HEWES stamped w/ waist 32" & inseam 31"

The Cover is the most faded. The pants have military and utilitarian repairs, wear, and honest use. The Blouse is likewise generally as you see. Included are the (2) red binders commemorating the retirement of Hewes and his Celebration party. WONDERFUL USMC humor and sentiment in the letters, just too much to show. Also an Ugly Angels patch and black and white of Hewes with Marines on the range/ in service Vietnam era. As well there are some copies of letters pertaining to family history, Joseph Hewes, etc. I do not know when Hewes commissioned.... In a separate listing(s) I have his complete insignia collection from 2nd LT to COL. Also in a separate listing is the complete collection of Vietnam Topo/Flight maps.
What you see per the photos is what you get. This is vintage military surplus/ HERRINGBONES of a remarkable Marine and American great great great ... grandson of one of our Founding Fathers, whom I barely got to know. As is obviously. God Bless You Colonel Hewes and thank you sir.
