Physicists, mathematicians & engineers worked as a team to build Stanford University\'s big electron linear accelerator. At left, Dr. Cary B. Jones, research associate at Stanford\'s Microwave Lab, winds heavy wire to form coil for one of worlds most powerful tubes -- called klystrons. 21 of these are used to power the electron linear accelerator. At right, George W. Tautfest, graduate student research assistant, checks connections which lead to the accelerator long tube at far left. Photo measures 8.75 x 7.25 inches.
