World\'s First \"Institute Of Evolution\" -- Source Of Life Sought By Eminent Scientists at Unique Paris Laboratories. Paris, France -- Photograph Shows: A portion of the courtyards, equipped with concrete basins in which various forms of aquatic life are raised and developed for later laboratory experiments -- at the new Institute of Evolution, the first institution of its kind in the world, under the direction of Professor Maurice Caullery, who succeeded the late famous scientist, Alfread Geard, founder of the Institute in 1892, when singlehanded... conducted researches at temporary headquarters at Ulm and Estrapade streets. After the separation of the Church and State in 1911, however, the French Government took an interest in this subject which today is taboo in certain states of the United States. The War delayed plans, but after subscriptions were raised the buildings and beautiful grounds on Raspail Boulevard were completed recently. Here world-famous scientists -- Professor Keilin of Cambridge, Professor Guyenot of the University of Geneva, Professor de la Vaulx, and Professor Vandel of Toulouse University among them -- join Professor Caullery in studying all kinds of vegetable and animal life with the ultimate purpose of finding where, when and how life began on our planet. The latest scientific instruments are installed, and every part of the Institute\'s space is used -- mainly for growing and cultivating plant and animal life, and for research and study.Photo measures 8.5 x 6.5inches. Photo is dated 03-08-1938. PHOTO FRONTPHOTO BACK
