Re: Hey hey hey - I was just posting my thoughts on the subject... (Richard Linney)

Sorry, I was off in another world. Luckily I stocked up on chocolate before I got taken away. The first rule of writing is NEVER let the household run out of chocolate!

Anyway, I was thinking about what you said here. Don't such diseases as Tay-Sachs and Huntington's Chorea occur as a result of inborn errors of metabolism, resulting in the gradual and inevitably fatal accumulation of errant metabolites?

Granted, their time scale is different; persons afflicted with Tay Sachs die in childhood, while Huntington's symptoms don't show up until middle age or so. If a person has the genes, they will either be carriers or have the disease. No person without the genes are carriers or have the disease. That pretty well fulfils Koch's Postulates regarding causation. I would think that would be sufficient to assert that the DNA is the cause of the disease.

Now, I hope Sparrow was listening. :-)
