In a basic sense you are correct.
The Big Bang theory is perhaps more correctly called Big Bang with Inflation. Inflation meaning that the initial expansion was superluminal ... faster than light.
This does not necessarily conflict with Einstein's theory as light's speed is defined two different dimensions ... distance and time. Tinkering with either one allows for this.
